Katarina Wit first started skating at five years old. It was her chance to demonstrate her skill and was accepted into a Karl-Marx-Stadt special school for gifted children. There she met her coach Jutta M ller. Witt made her mark by finishing second at the 1982 World Championships, held in Copenhagen. Since then her elegance and grace captured the eye of all. Then she began dominating the sport. Olympic triumph Katarina Wit won gold in the women's ice skaters during the Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after a highly competitive and intense contest. Her victory four years ago was even closer. She actually lost the free-skating competition, but earned the gold medal based on her performances in the compulsory figures and the short program. Witt was the first repeat medalist in figure skating for women since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt competed in the Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 following a career that was successful acting. Despite not winning the gold medal, she won over the audience. Witt got her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame on the 15th of April, 1995.
